Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator
Thank you for visiting my blog on Junk Journal Wednesday, I really do appreciate it and hope you like the project and will take a look at the video tutorial as well. I was emptying a box of cereal the other morning and as usual I split it down the seam and cut off the top and bottom flaps. I do this so that storing it in my craft is easier & takes up less room. As I was doing this I noticed that the inside of the box was a cream colour and not grey like most boxes. I got so excited when I saw this. I decided to tea dye it and then collage on it to use for tags a journaling cards. I had recently made some tags and used tea dyed paper and book pages as the base and I felt they were a bit flimsy, so this seemed like a great solution.
Measurements and Materials
- I cut each of the sides of the box so I had manageable sections
- I glued vintage book pages and music sheets and digitals to the front side of the box
- I could not find the dyed PVA I normally use so used some matt medium instead
- I am not convinced this worked that well as an adhesive but I added extra glue and was going to stitch the edges anyway so I was not too concerned
- Once the fist layer was dry I decided to add some Cinnamon Cider ink refill to a small amount of Matt Medium and covered the whole collage with it
- This gave a fabulous vintage caramel look to it
- I then got a paper napkin with birds and flowers on them and collage these on with the dyed PVA (yes I remembered where I put it!)
- Once cut up into tag and journal cards I added some corrugated card and a single word
- Once dry they were stitched around and then I added tops to the tags and eyelets
- I cut some Cinnamon Cider card stock so it matched the stain on the tags
- Each strip was 1 1/2" x 3/4" & folded in half to make a 3/4'x3/4" square
- This folded card was stuck to the top of the tags and an eyelet added
- This was then topped off with some Cinnamon Cider ribbon so all the colour toned well together
- I am really pleased with hoe they turned out, they are really robust tags due to the thickness of the card and the extra layers added
- I love the plain tea stained back and I am likely to add some stamping to this to fit in with the journal
Now watch the video tutorial to see how this was made :-)
