Edith Holden Junk Journal Tags #JJ4E

Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator

Thank you for visiting my blog on my Junk Journal day, I really do appreciate it and hope you like the project and will take a look at the video tutorial as well.  I have made a start on my Edith Holden Journal. I am doing a challenge in the wonderful facebook group Junk Journalling For Everyone. Each week we are set a challenge to complete and at the end of it we will have a single signature journal. The challenge is to make a vintage journal but we can chose any theme that is vintage. I spent ages trying to decide on my theme and then I decided this was the best opportunity for starting my Edith Holden Journal I had been promising myself for over a year to make!

Week 1 challenge it to make 3 tags and 3 journalling cards. I made the tags first and here they are. I thoroughly enjoyed working with such beautiful pages. I started off by separating all the pages so I had the ones with just writing on the pages, the ones with images on one side only, ones with images on both sides and those that were the center of a signature and had a double spread.  I'd seen someone else do this and thought it was a really good idea.

Edith Holden Junk Journal Tags

Measurements and Materials

  • The base of the tags were made using one page of the book
    • I chose to use a page that had writing on both sides
  • The page was 9" tall so I was able to make the tags all 3" wide
    • This meant that the writing was sideways but I didn't have a problem with that
  • I neatened the torn edge of the trips and then cut slants in the top to for the tag shape
  • I chose my 3 images and made sure I had the writing that said what they were
    • The images were fussy cut and the titles were ripped
  • All edges were inked, I used Early Espresso on the tag as I felt this was a good match for the colour of the script, the images were inked with Soft Sued
  • I added some tea stained doily behind the image
  • I backed the tags with tea dyed paper, I chose a sheet with a doily imprint
  • I added some stamping to add to the aged look, I used Quiet Meadow, it has a wonderful splatter which is perfect for making things look old, also the flower image went so well with the Edith Holden drawings
  • I decided to sew around the edges, I like the look but it also makes sure the backing paper stays adhered to the tag
  • The final finishing tough is the ribbon, I have had this retired Stampin' Up! ribbon in my stash for years, I bought it on clearance in probably 2015!

Now watch the video tutorial to see how this was made :-)

Smash Book Scrapbook Layout

Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator

Thank you for visiting my blog again today, I am bringing you the tutorial for the Smash book layout I made for  the Ink & Share Scrapbook blog hop. I am really enjoying participating in this hop, I get loads of inspiration from the other talented members plus I am rediscovering my love of scrapbooking.  Recently in a Junk Journal facebook group I am a member of someone asked about Smash books and wanted to see photos of pages that people had done for inspiration. I dug out my book and really enjoyed the memories I had recorded in them. I have had mine years and there is still plenty of room to record more. I love using these type of books as you can just do anything in them.  They were designed to be a quick way of putting your memories down. But as in this case you can do more traditional style layouts in them as well.

We had a theme this month of using a punch on our layout and I have used the Ice cream cone builder punch and I did some punch art as well to create a pint glass from the Jar punch and the bottom of the ice cream punch.

Ink & Share Scrapbook June Blog Hop - Use A Punch

My layout shows 2 fun outings with my sons, the first was a visit to York where my youngest lives, we had a lovely day together and got to hug for the first time in nearly a year. We also enjoyed a lovely 2 scoop ice cream in the glorious sunshine. The second is a night out with my oldest son to celebrate Father's Day, been about 10 months since we were together in a pub & out for a meal. We do love a nice pint of beer!

Measurements and Materials

  • I cut a sheet of standard card stock down to pit the page
  • I used the two off cuts to add a bit of colour to the second page and still allowed the page pattern to show through
  • I used the mask to add a bit of interest to the pages by blending Barmy Blue Ink in random places
  • I used Playful Alphabet dies to add the titles to the pages
  • The punches helped to tell the story
  • I did a clever bit of punch art to create the pint of beer
  • I made a quick envelope from the 6" x6" DSP
    • Score on one side @ 2 1/2" & 5"
    • Rotate and score again @ 1 1/2" & 5 1/2"
  • I added a punched ice cream and some ribbon to close now i can write my memories privately
  • I created a flip out on the other page under the main photo give extra space for more photos and some journalling space

Now watch the video tutorial to see how this was made :-)

Ink & Share Scrapbook June Blog Hop - Use A Punch

I do not like my hand writing so the story of these 2 events are hidden in an envelope, once the ribbon is untied the journalling spot is inside.

I created a flip out so extra photos and journalling space can be added.  I will write later about the fabulous glasses in the restaurant. I said if Stampin' Up! made pint pots this is what they would look like! lol

A bit of trial and error and finally managed to create some punc art to look like a pint of beer!

I don't think these books are made anymore but I have managed to pick some up in clearance racks in craft shops.
