The Project Share February Blog Hop: Black & White

Nigezza Creates aka Gez, Independent Stampin' Up® Demonstrator

Thank you for visiting my blog, I really do appreciate it. This is the second blog hop for today! This is the Project share blog hop, small but very inspiring I am sure you will find.  I am hopping with Jill, Verity & Heather who I do a weekly project share on my blog on Thursdays.  This month out theme is black & white. I do hope you like the project and will take a look at the video tutorial as well. I have decided to make a one sheet origami journal. I got the idea for this while watching Gi Kerr from Happiness In Crafting on YouTube. She was making these origami pockets for adding a gift card to. She also showed one bigger that could have a small number of pages sewn in to create a mini journal. This is what I have done. I made a vintage one straight after watching and then made one in this lovely black & white DSP for this blog hop.

Measurements and Materials

  • 12" x 12" sheet of DSP
  • You can fold by hand but I like to score
  • Score @ 3" - 6" - 9"
  • Fold and burnish
  • Fold in each corner to form a right angle triangle to the first score line
  • Fold these in to the centre score line
  • Turn over and fold in each end so the top of the triangle is about 1/6" away from fold
  • Fold whole thing in half so triangles are folded in
    • They should over lap slightly and tuck into each other
  • You should now have 2 packet on each outside page and 2 triangle pockets on inside
  • I unfolded and turned over the short edges between the triangle folds and glued
    • This gives a neat finish and exposed the pocket edge better
  • I also glued down the over lap in the centre
    • This stops any gaping that might occur
  • Insets were made for each pocket
    • 2 inside pockets 5 1/2"x2 3/4" all corners were rounded
    • 4 outside pockets were cut to resemble file tabs
    • 5 1/2" x 3 14"
      • place on trimmer with short edge to top
      • put edge @ 1/4" and up up from bottom stopping @ 2"
      • notched the top end and notch to the cut line, this forms a tab
  • Signatures for the centre were made using 120gsm copy paper but ordinary weight would work a well - for the vintage version this paper was tea dyed
    • 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"
    • I used 4 sheets, folded in half to form 16 pages front and back
    • These were sewn in using the 3 hole pamphlet stitch
    • See video tutorial for this
  • The journal was closed using ribbon that was attached to the back and tied in a bow on the front
    • about 24"
  • Front of journal was decorated with die cuts and a suitable sentiment
  • Pocket created for a tag on the black & white version

Now watch the video tutorial to see how this was made :-)
